More About Jason
Who I Help
I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who are navigating the lasting impact of trauma, anxiety, or emotional dysregulation. My clients are often high-functioning on the outside, yet quietly battling internal storms that stem from past harm—abuse, loss, violence, or crisis. They’re exhausted by hypervigilance, shame, flashbacks, or shutdown cycles. Many are survivors of interpersonal violence, complex trauma, or childhood neglect who are ready to find more than just coping strategies—they’re ready for real, sustainable healing.
Others come to therapy after years of white-knuckling through life, unsure why they feel emotionally numb, on edge, or disconnected from the people around them. If you’ve ever thought, “Why am I still like this when it’s been years?”—you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. Your symptoms make sense in the context of your lived experience. I help people make sense of those patterns and reconnect to a deeper sense of self and safety.
How I Work
I offer therapy that is structured, trauma-informed, and deeply compassionate. My approach integrates evidence-based modalities like EMDR, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness, grounded in a clear understanding of how trauma shapes the nervous system, cognition, and emotion. Our work will be collaborative and paced—never rushed, never surface-level. I hold space for the messy middle: the places where healing isn’t linear and old wounds show up in new ways.
I believe therapy should be a space where you feel empowered—not pathologized. I’ll support you in identifying what’s working, what’s not, and how to rebuild internal systems that serve your growth and well-being. I’m directive when needed, reflective when appropriate, and always committed to maintaining a therapeutic relationship based on respect, curiosity, and safety.
Areas of Specialization
- Complex Trauma (C-PTSD) & PTSD
- Survivors of sexual abuse, assault, or interpersonal violence
- Homicide and violent crime trauma
- Emotional regulation and dissociation
- Anger, grief, and identity repair
- Teens and adults navigating life transitions or crisis recovery
- Burnout, hyper-independence, and trauma recovery in helping professionals
Supporting Children, Tweens, and Teens
When I work with kids and teens, I take a different approach than traditional talk therapy. Young people—especially children—often don’t have the words or abstract thinking skills to explain what they’re feeling. That’s why I focus on experiential therapy—helping them learn and grow through action, creativity, and connection.
Instead of sitting and talking, we might use games, movement, drawing, role play, or problem-solving activities. These experiences help them build emotional awareness, confidence, and real-life coping skills in a way that makes sense for their age and stage of development.
My goal is to create a safe, engaging space where kids feel seen and heard—without pressure. Whether they’re struggling with friendships, big emotions, anxiety, identity, or change at home or school, we work together to find practical tools they can actually use in everyday life.
Every session is designed to meet them where they’re at—building trust, self-understanding, and the ability to handle life’s challenges with resilience.
What I Bring
With over 30 years of experience in the field of psychology and mental health, I bring both breadth and depth to my practice. My career has included working in community mental health, crisis response, higher education, and leadership in clinical training. I’ve served as a Director of Clinical Training, Adjunct Professor in Psychology, and Faculty of the Year at Buena Vista University.
As a Homicide and Violent Crime Specialist and trauma educator, I’ve supported law enforcement agencies, community responders, and clinical professionals in creating trauma-informed systems of care. I’m particularly invested in culturally responsive, systems-aware approaches to healing—recognizing that trauma doesn’t happen in a vacuum, and recovery is deeply personal and relational.
My work is grounded in the belief that every client brings unique strengths, inner wisdom, and the capacity to heal. My role is to walk alongside you with clarity, skill, and attunement as you rebuild safety within and around you.
