Accepting New Clients

He/They

David Fernandez, MSW, LSWAIC

WA License #SC61553152

I believe that each person has the innate capacity for lifelong growth, self-reflection, and healing. I am passionate about helping my clients to heal from trauma and move through beliefs and patterns of thinking that hold us back from reaching our full potential. I take a holistic approach to therapy, and recognize the importance of how culture, family systems, and relationships shape ourselves, and the way we interact with and connect to the world around us.

Starting therapy can be daunting in and of itself, but I believe just taking the first step on your healing journey to be an act of bravery and strength. Building trust and rapport is essential to my practice, as I seek to partner with you in creating a space where you feel seen and heard as your full self. I value your feedback, and strive to tailor my approach to fit your unique needs and values.

More About David

As a client in my care, you and I will work collaboratively to create a space that empowers you to explore the ways past experiences have shaped your present, and to imagine and practice new ways of being. I believe the therapeutic relationship is an essential part of the healing journey, and I approach this relationship with a curiosity and openness to your innate capacity for growth and connection.

My passion is to accompany you as you walk on your healing journey. I do this through an integrated approach to therapy, utilizing evidence-based practice in conjunction with your own insight and wisdom from your lived experience. My approach to therapy is strengths-based and systemic. I believe in your individual capacity for healing and growth, and also recognize the importance of understanding the way external systems affect our well-being and shape our lived experiences. As a trauma-informed therapist, I take a holistic approach to sessions, blending skill-building and grounding exercises with gradual exposure to help you heal from trauma and cultivate a sense of wholeness in your daily life.

During our time together, I will provide a warm and non-judgmental space in which you can create meaningful, long-lasting changes in yourself and life. I have experience addressing a diversity of issues, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem, communication, and interpersonal relationships. Therapeutic interventions I draw from include but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, art therapy, and play therapy.

I began my work in mental health in a youth residential setting, and have since been working with children, adolescents, and adults in mental health settings such as outpatient clinics and public schools. I received my MSW from the University of Washington with a concentration in Clinical Social Work, and was a member of the Latinx Traineeship program. I have extensive experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, and across the age range.

Outside of work, I enjoy getting lost in a good book, exploring the natural beauty of the PNW, traveling, and cooking.
