“I believe in the power of change and the value of improving old ways of thinking to create something better. By reflecting on our experiences, we can adapt and find new ways to handle future challenges. I’m passionate about helping others see their own ability to make meaningful changes and take control of their life’s direction. To support that growth, I draw on different approaches to guide people as they discover and become their true, authentic selves.”

More About Jason

I am a psychology professor and clinical mental health therapist with over 30 years of experience in social work, counseling, and therapy. My expertise lies in trauma psychology, crisis intervention, and addressing multicultural issues in mental health treatment. I have taught undergraduate and graduate students at institutions such as Grand View University, Buena Vista University, & Des Moines Community College (DMACC) where I emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion in my teaching and mentoring practices.

In my clinical work, I have had the privilege of supporting survivors of sexual abuse and violent crimes. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to adolescents and adults, offering group counseling, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care. My work extends to forensic psychology, collaborating with local hospitals to facilitate evidence collection and provide advocacy for survivors navigating legal processes.

Beyond therapy, I have shared my knowledge and passion through community lectures, professional training, and contributions to a film documentary focused on trauma and healing. My dedication has been recognized with honors such as the Faculty of the Year award at Buena Vista University and membership in the Alpha Chi Honor Society.

I am also deeply committed to professional collaboration and innovation. I regularly lead training sessions and develop educational resources that empower mental health professionals to adopt trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices in their work.

My mission is to create meaningful change by combining my experience, skills, and innovative thinking to improve mental health treatment and education.
