Chris Mateo, M.S., M. Phil. Ed., LMHCA

WA License #MC61451937

Whether you are exploring therapy for the first time or simply looking for a new therapist, I am glad you’re here. Therapy can be intimidating!

I specialize in supporting individuals and relationship partners through life’s tough transitions, whether it’s changing careers, managing ADHD, relationship changes, navigating gender-affirming care, or coping with depression, anxiety, and grief.

In our sessions, you are the expert. You have different lived experiences, attachments, skills, talents, and understand the best learning styles for you — My goal in our time together is to understand the systems that are affecting your life in a supportive, non-judgmental environment, and untangle how we can create change in our relationships and behaviors.

More About Chris

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counseling Associate (LMHCA) in Washington state. I have two Master’s degrees in Counseling Mental Health Services (M.S.) and Professional Counseling (M.Phil.Ed.) from the University of Pennsylvania.

Additionally, I have completed training in the Gottman Method (Level 2), Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFT-Level 1), Strengths Based ADHD Services (PESI), and Gender-Affirming Psychotherapy (Affirm Lab).

Personally, I love being in nature, building terrariums, practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and getting lost in books — from non-fiction to fantasy, manga, and sci-fi. If prompted, I will talk non stop about collecting fountain pens, Magic: The Gathering cards, plants, and vinyl records. When with friends, I can’t help from smiling uncontrollably and laughing in loud bursts.

My therapeutic style embraces the absurd wonders of life and its indeterminacy. Humor and awkwardness are natural parts of my style. My practice is also heavily influenced by my upbringing as a first-gen college student and my experiences in a large Puerto Rican family.
