Why Choose Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy?
Welcome to Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy. Healthy relationships and meaningful connections are the foundation of a fulfilling life, and our caring, compassionate team will help you strengthen your bonds, heal past wounds, and grow into the best version of yourself.
What Makes Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy Unique?
Founded by Laura Richer, a licensed therapist and Seattle native, Anchor Light has been helping families, couples, and individuals in Seattle for over 10 years. We’re a proud, local company that’s deeply connected to our vibrant and diverse communities.
We’re not a “platform” that connects you with a therapist who may or may not be right for you. Anchor Light’s team lives and works in the Seattle area. We understand local stressors and challenges (like the rain) because we face them, too. But we also know how to find the beauty and joy of living in the PNW, like living an active lifestyle.
Our practice is owned and managed by us and no one else. Our independence allows our therapists to create a tailored, personalized care plan that resonates with you and enables Anchor Light to pay a living wage to all employees. We use a collaborative approach to integrative care and take a holistic approach to your mental health. There are no expensive memberships. Pay for only the care you receive.

Frequently Asked Questions About Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy
Does Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy accept insurance?
We choose not to accept insurance to give you the freedom to see the therapist that’s best for you, not who insurance covers. This gives you the freedom to meet with your provider as often as you want and need while keeping your information confidential and private.
We can give you a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Learn more about how we handle fees and insurance.
Does Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy offer discounted therapy or a sliding scale?
We don’t have a sliding scale but do offer discounted therapy with our graduate internship student therapists, who are overseen by licensed therapists, ensuring you receive high-quality care.
How do you match me with the right therapist? Can I switch therapists?
Connecting with the right therapist makes all the difference in your mental health journey. During your consultation, our Care Coordination team will learn more about your goals, preferences, and concerns before recommending a therapist whose expertise and approach align with your needs. If your needs, goals, or concerns change, we’ll help you find a different therapist in the practice.
How is Anchor Light Therapy different from online therapy platforms?
Anchor Light Therapy is a locally-owned practice located in the Uptown neighborhood of Seattle. Our therapists live and work in Washington, collaborate with each other regularly, and are supported by a dedicated leadership and care coordination team. This allows us to provide personalized recommendations and coordinate care that large platforms cannot.
Does Anchor Therapy offer virtual or online therapy?
Yes, we offer both in-person and telehealth sessions.
How do you support LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and families?
We’re committed to providing affirming, inclusive care for people of all identities and relationship structures. Our therapists create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore the challenges you face, strengthen your relationships, and pursue personal growth while feeling respected and understood. Learn more about our LGBTQIA+ services.
How can I be sure I need therapy?
Many people start therapy without a specific diagnosis or mental health crisis. Whether you’re navigating a life transition, relationship challenge, stress, burnout, or simply want greater self-understanding, therapy can provide support, insight, and practical tools for growth.
I’ve tried therapy before, and it didn’t work. Should I try again?
Absolutely. Every therapist, therapeutic approach, and relationship is different. We take the time to understand what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past so we can tailor your care to your unique needs and help you accomplish your goals.
