Premarital Counseling Is a Safe Space to Address Tough Issues

Premarital or pre-marriage counseling focuses on the future, helping partners cultivate good habits that build a strong foundation for a successful marriage. It’s a safe space to tackle bigger issues that may come up, are being avoided, or are challenging to address. Premarital couples address these potential challenges and develop effective strategies to navigate them productively and constructively in a supportive environment.

Our licensed marriage and family therapists use the Gottman Method to teach couples how to resolve conflict, improve communication, deepen their intimacy, and build connection and trust. They provide a safe space for structured, productive conversations on hot-button but essential topics you might otherwise avoid, including:

  • Finances
  • Parenting
  • Intimacy concerns
  • Family planning
  • Challenging family dynamics
  • Co-parenting with exes
  • Blended families
  • Stepchildren
  • Sex and intimacy
  • Miscommunication
  • Past hurt and betrayals
  • Addressing or solving pre-wedding jitters

Long-Term Benefits of Premarital Counseling

Marriage is a significant commitment that brings life-changing responsibilities. Premarital or pre-commitment counseling is an excellent way to lay a solid foundation for a long-lasting marriage. It helps couples build valuable skills they can use in future challenges they’ll face, like:

  • Cultivating mutual respect and understanding
  • Improving communication skills
  • Healthy coping and compromising skills
  • Building healthy conflict resolution skills
  • Establishing shared values and goals
  • Enhancing intimacy and emotional connection
  • Setting expectations
  • Creating a secure attachment
  • Setting and enforcing boundaries
  • Meeting emotional needs

Online Premarital Counseling

Anchor Light Couples and Family Therapy also offers online premarital counseling sessions to help you and your future spouse build a healthy relationship confidently and effectively. Whether you and your partner don’t have the same flexibility in your schedule or prefer the convenience counseling offers, our online therapy platform provides a private, comfortable environment for couples to openly discuss important topics, build conflict resolution skills, and establish a strong foundation for their marriage.

What Does Premarital Counseling Cost and How Does It Work?

Like our couples therapy and relationship counseling, premarital counseling in Seattle begins with an assessment phase, including four therapy sessions and an online assessment. After the first three sessions, your therapist will create a long-term treatment plan.

Premarital counseling is a financial and time investment that creates a space for you to experience healing and progress in a way that can change your relationship.
