More About Derrick

My therapeutic approach is grounded in a humanistic framework that emphasizes empathy, collaboration, and respect for each person’s lived experience. I integrate evidence based practices to support meaningful change while honoring the values, strengths, and perspectives each individual brings into therapy.

My goal is to help people navigate challenges such as depression, various anxieties, trauma-related symptoms, emotional dysregulation, and pervasive negative self talk. My focus is on increasing insight, awareness and increasing confidence in one’s ability to manage life’s stressors.

In therapy, I strive to provide a non-judgmental, collaborative, and culturally responsive space. I lead with curiosity and acceptance, viewing the therapeutic relationship as a central component of healing and lasting change.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor trained in evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, and Exposure and Response Prevention. I integrate these modalities to tailor treatment to each client’s goals, needs, and current stage of change.

I have several years of experience working across intensive mental health settings, including residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs, providing individual, group, and family therapy in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a psychiatric aide in inpatient hospital settings with adolescents and adults during periods of acute crisis. These experiences highlighted the importance of compassion, structure, and emotional attunement in my therapeutic work.
