Individual Support

A Time to Focus on You

At Anchor Light Couples Therapy, you will work with a therapist who will work alongside you to meet your personal goals, and break through what is holding you back. With individual therapy, you will gain the tools, and guidance to help feel hopeful, connected, present, and empowered. You do not have to put your growth on hold just because of toxic stress, anxiety or because we are experiencing a pandemic.

Sometimes there can be a perception that seeking therapy means that you are weak. Much to the contrary, seeking guidance means you are strong and ready to move forward. Meeting with a therapist in a safe space means someone is joining and supporting you in meeting your personal goals. They will reflect the positive, and help you form effective strategies to move forward. Individual therapy is your slice of time to fully focus on you.

Choosing the Right Support

Individual Therapy and Other Counseling Options

Individual therapy can stand on its own or complement couples and group counseling, depending on your goals.

Couple connecting with each other

Couples and Marriage Counseling

When you and your current partner want to fine-tune and improve your partnership—for example, improving communication, working through conflict, or addressing intimacy—couples therapy is often the better fit. Individual and couples therapy can also work together to strengthen how you navigate relationship challenges.

Individual Therapy for Relationship Issues

Often, to have a healthy and rewarding relationship, the work starts with the individual. We can explore barriers such as low self-esteem, negative beliefs about relationships, poor relationship history, uncertainty about where to begin, dating anxiety, fear, and adapting to online dating.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is an excellent way to connect with others sharing the same experience and know that you are not alone with what is keeping you stuck. It is a shared space where you can learn tools from both the therapist and others who have successfully faced challenges. Group therapy can complement individual therapy, but typically is not a replacement.

Answers to Your Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

When you meet with your therapist, they will explain each modality of therapy and you will decide together which option is the best fit for your personal growth goals.

When partners are seen in couples counseling, the counselor may arrange to see one or both individuals in individual sessions. Usually, to avoid creating more challenges in the relationship, these individual sessions are conducted under the rule that there will be no secrets, and that anything spoken in the individual sessions that might present a barrier to your relationship must be brought into the joint counseling. An example of this is infidelity that you are unwilling to end. Anchor Light Couples Therapy has multiple therapists, so if you are looking for confidential individual therapy in addition to couples therapy, we can offer that option.

Your therapist may recommend an amount of time that seems appropriate for obtaining your goals. However, the client ultimately decides how long they would like to be in therapy. Some people have a lot they need to process and heal, so the length of therapy may be longer than for someone who wants to fine-tune their current experience in the world.
