More About Mackenzie
Entering into therapy, for some people, is a big step. I will help you take that step in a way that is best and most approachable for you. My personal goal is to help you on your journey to get to where you want to go. Whether you are a couple struggling to find common ground, parents who are looking to help their child get through some road bumps, transitioning to a place you didn’t expect, or feeling the spark of life fade away, we can explore and talk about these areas in a way that will help you find happiness, love, meaning and control over your life. These conversations are without judgement and focus on your goals.
I approach therapy with a holistic lens, tailoring our work to fit your needs by integrating personal, emotional, relational, and spiritual elements. My background includes a B.A. from Duquesne University, and I am currently working towards a M.A. at Seattle University. In both experiences, my training focuses on humanistic existential-phenomenological psychology and eco/transpersonal psychology. What this means for you is that I have all the tools and orientations to guide my practice in a way that is focused on you and the unique background you bring into our therapeutic relationship. This background has the ability to help you with anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, and life transitions in a way that always puts your individuality at the center of everything we do.
For professionals and adults who are struggling with work stress or burnout, we will focus on where the source of the pressure is coming from, your career path, personal values and where you want to direct your future. Self-reflection and confronting anxiety often presents eye-opening options that can offer solutions and hope.
I have worked with many populations including at-risk inner-city youth, black trauma-affected communities, and individuals in outpatient treatment. These experiences have deepened my empathy and strengthened my ability to connect with clients from all walks of life. I strive to understand how your daily struggles impact your ability to move throughout life. I recognized early on that one must recognize diversity before help can be provided. I am deeply committed to multicultural and LGBTQIA+ counseling, always creating an inclusive and empathetic space. The intersection of the cultures and identities we belong to impacts the way we understand who we are, our relationships, and social pressures. Your experiences will be valued as we find a supportive environment for you to explore who you are at your core.
For teens and young adults grappling with questions of identity and self-worth, we will talk about the pressures you are facing and how to navigate daily life. In my work with teens and children, I integrate Play Therapy so that my young patients feel at ease in expressing themselves and feel empowered to assert themselves in the world. I create a safe environment by building trust and introducing copying skills that help build confidence in finding answers to challenges.
I also work with twins in helping them to find their individuality and ways to address competition, conflict, and comparison within the twin relationship. As an identical twin, I have a unique insight into this dynamic that isn’t readily discussed by others.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy creating stained glass, thrifting, conducting research, and spending time with my dog, rabbit, guinea pig, fish, and turtle. These activities keep me grounded and remind me of the importance of creativity and connection, both in my personal life and in my work as a therapist.
The most important thing you should know about me is that I am very approachable, friendly, and empathetic. I genuinely look forward to meeting you and believe that we can make great progress together in our sessions to lessen the weight of what you are going through.
