“I support my clients through increasing their empowerment and understanding of their experiences to develop strength through vulnerability and more fulfilling relationships with others. I provide a space where my clients can listen to their mental and emotional needs and develop relationships with their emotions and bodies so that they can continue to nurture their mental health outside of the therapy room and after therapy has concluded. My approach focuses on building understanding and compassion that can promote better self-love and love towards others. “

More About Brenda

As a therapist, I seek to empower others and restore a positive mindset that fosters vulnerability and self-love to improve one’s connection to themselves and to others. In therapy, I support clients by identifying cycles, empower clients through the creation of new narratives, and challenge the unhelpful beliefs adopted through interactions with society, family, and other spheres of influence. I also encourage vulnerability and communication skills to strengthen clients’ ability to advocate for their needs with family, peers, partners, or in their professional life. This work is conducted within a non-judgmental, collaborative, and inclusive space where the client is the expert in their experience and the author of their story.

Prior to working at Anchor Light, I supported clients in group practice and community mental health systems using evidence-based practices and developing collaborative relationships. I have experience working with teens, adults, families, and couples experiencing a broad range of issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, and relationship issues including infidelity and divorce. I have also completed EMDR  basic training and Gottman Couple Therapy Level 1 training. I utilize various modalities to fit clients’ needs including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and Gottman Couple Therapy. I am also bilingual and can conduct sessions in Spanish.

Outside of the therapy space, I enjoy indulging in self-care and soul-care whether it is going on a hike or staying in and making dinner with my partner. I love having discussions with my friends that reflect on current society and life’s greater meanings and I enjoy catching up on the latest thrillers and sci-fi shows like Westworld and Handmaid’s Tale. What makes me human is constantly trying to find balance in all areas of my life and overcoming my adversities to not allow fear to stop me from getting out of my comfort zone so I engage in deeper relationships with others.
